The Academic Symposium is hosted once every three years by each committee to provide practical recommendations for improving emergency medicine (EM). Each year, three panels are formed with the mandate to:
 

• Research their topic,

• Develop recommendations for Canadian academic EM units,

• Present their findings at the Academic Symposium, and

• Publish the recommendations in CJEM.
