Championing Emergency Medicine, One Voice at a Time
The CAEP Public Affairs Committee is dedicated to advancing and protecting the practice of emergency medicine in Canada. Composed of physicians from across the country, this committee works tirelessly to ensure that the needs of emergency providers, patients, and communities are recognized at every level of health policy and decision-making.
What We Do
The Public Affairs Committee leads CAEP’s efforts to:
-
Represent emergency medicine nationally: We advocate to governments, health authorities, and professional bodies on issues impacting emergency care.
-
Address system challenges: From emergency department overcrowding and access to rural care, to workforce shortages and the integration of virtual and hybrid models, we bring forward evidence-based solutions to some of Canada’s most pressing healthcare issues.
-
Promote equitable access to care: We support system reforms that ensure timely emergency care is available to all Canadians—regardless of geography, socioeconomic status, or background.
-
Amplify physician voices: We provide tools and platforms for emergency physicians to engage in advocacy locally and nationally, ensuring their experiences inform health system change.
-
Collaborate for impact: We partner with other medical associations, patient groups, and health organizations to amplify our message and drive collective action.
Why It Matters
Emergency departments are a critical access point to care for millions of Canadians each year. Yet, the system faces increasing strain: hallway medicine, delayed offloads, staffing shortages, and systemic inequities are not isolated problems—they are national crises.
Through the work of the Advocacy Committee, CAEP brings attention to these issues and pushes for sustainable, patient-centred, and physician-supported solutions. This work shapes policy, protects quality care, and ensures emergency medicine continues to meet the needs of our communities—now and in the future.
Support the Mission
CAEP’s advocacy is only possible because of the strength and support of its members. Together, we are creating a stronger voice for emergency medicine in Canada.
Join us. Advocate with us. Be the change.
