The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) is pleased to announce its forthcoming meeting with Provincial Ministers of Health during its annual conference, scheduled for October 11th in Charlottetown. The meeting between CAEP and the Ministers will focus on addressing the pressing crisis in emergency departments (EDs) across Canada and leveraging the expertise of CAEP’s emergency physicians to address and rectify these issues.

In recent years, EDs have faced unprecedented challenges, including overcrowding, staff shortages, prolonged wait times, and resource constraints. These challenges have affected the delivery of timely and high-quality emergency care to Canadians. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, CAEP has once again taken the initiative to engage with Provincial and Territorial Governments to collaboratively work towards effective solutions. The meeting on October 11th comes on the heels of a successful and productive meeting held between CAEP and the Deputy Ministers of Health.

On October 11, CAEP will propose the formation of a National Forum to improve emergency care that will focus on evidence-based strategies and insights from its experts in emergency medicine and government decision-makers.

CAEP believes that by working collaboratively with all Ministries of Health, we can make significant strides toward resolving the ED crisis. Every Canadian deserves access to timely and high-quality emergency care regardless of their postal code, and CAEP is committed to achieving this goal for all Canadians.
