Jill McEwen Award for Women’s Leadership in EM Recipient

Dr. Sara Gray

Dr. Sara Gray is an emergency physician, critical care specialist, Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, and internationally recognized educator, speaker, and professional coach. Throughout her career, she has combined clinical excellence with a deep commitment to physician wellness, leadership development, and gender equity in medicine. She is the founder and chair of Toronto Women in Emergency Medicine (TWEM), now the largest network supporting women in emergency medicine in Canada, and has served in national leadership roles including Vice-Chair of the CAEP Wellness Committee.


Dr. Gray has been a driving force for advancing women in emergency medicine through mentorship, sponsorship, education, and advocacy. Through TWEM, she has created opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, negotiation training, and professional networking for women physicians and trainees across more than 20 hospitals. She is also a certified professional coach who has provided hundreds of hours of coaching focused on resilience, leadership, career advancement, and wellbeing, while contributing nationally and internationally through scholarship, conference leadership, and invited presentations.

Colleagues praise her generosity, authenticity, courage, and ability to create psychologically safe spaces where women can thrive.
