Recognizing Excellence in Emergency Medicine in Canada.

President’s Award Recipient

Dr. Paul Pageau

Dr. Paul Pageau, an Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa and Clinician Investigator at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, has been awarded the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) President’s Award in recognition of his exceptional service and leadership within CAEP. Over more than a decade, he served on the CAEP Board of Directors as Treasurer, President-Elect, President, and Past-President, helping guide the organization through a period of significant growth and strategic development. He continues to support the association through his role as Chair of the Committee of Financial Audit.

Beyond his governance contributions, Dr. Pageau has advanced emergency medicine through advocacy, research, and education. A recognized leader in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), he spent a decade leading CAEP’s Emergency Department Targeted Ultrasound programs, helped develop national imaging and ultrasound practice standards, and supported the growth of ultrasound education internationally through initiatives in Rwanda. His leadership has also extended to national projects such as the Canadian Association of Radiologists’ Imaging Referral Guidelines and major emergency medicine conferences in Canada.

Colleagues describe Dr. Pageau as a leader defined by humility and service, with an exceptional ability to convene diverse stakeholders, foster collegial debate, and build consensus. They note that he consistently invests in teams, champions emerging leaders, and shares credit generously. Nominators emphasize that his impact has been tangible, measurable, and enduring, and that CAEP is “stronger, more visible, and more effective because of his sustained, hands-on leadership.”
