Assessment of paediatric care in Saskatchewan’s general emergency departments with a validated paediatric readiness score
The weighted Paediatric Readiness Score is a 100-point score that assesses six paediatric-specific domains of systemic care provided to critically ill and injured children presenting to general emergency departments (GED) The six domains include (1) coordination of care, (2) staffing and training, (3) availability of required equipment / supplies, (4) policies and procedures, (5) patient safety, and (6) quality improvement processes. Existing literature suggests that GEDs with higher wPRS have decreased morbidity and mortality for the children they treat. The wPRS for Saskatchewan’s GEDs has not been previously assessed.
