The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) and the National Emergency Nurses Association (NENA) are proud to announce that they have entered into a partnership to own, manage and maintain The Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (CTAS).
CTAS is a vital part of Emergency Medicine which enables hospitals emergency departments to prioritize patient care requirements and provide a high level of patient safety. Now, more than ever, this tool is critical.
The first priority of this partnership is to renew the tool and ensure that all of Canada has access to the latest version of CTAS. Incorporating a national continuous learning approach will ensure that the tool remains up to date with the latest research and knowledge and that it is available in both official languages.
This work will be led by a newly formed National Advisory Committee headed by Dr. Justin Hall (CAEP) and Joy McCarron (NENA). Work is already underway. Other specialized versions of CTAS such as pre-hospital and pediatric will also be updated and the appropriate partners will be invited to join the National Advisory Committee.
Dawn Peta, President of NENA, expressed her pleasure of the partnership by stating:
“This continued collaboration is the beginning of ensuring that we provide safe, evidence based, consistent patient care across Canada.”
Dr. Michael Howlett, President of CAEP, stated:
“We are elated with the creation of this partnership that is a natural collaboration. Working with NENA reflects the teamwork concept for the provision of emergency services to Canadians.”
